WELCOME TO KISS AND TALE ROMANCE BOOKSHOP

Authors

Hello, authors!

Congratulations on publishing your book!  And thanks for your interest in having your titles stocked at Kiss and Tale Romance Bookshop.  While we are committed to supporting independent authors, as a small store, we must be selective about what we choose to carry on our shelves.  As a result of the overwhelming number of requests daily, far more than we can process in a timely manner, we are not able to discuss new titles or consignments via phone call, direct email, or in-person visits.  Please know that we are working as quickly as we can to get through all the requests and it may take as long as 3-4 weeks to receive a response from us.  To be considered, you must read and agree to the following guidelines and terms, then submit a completed Author Consignment Request Form.

Criteria we require for books on consignment:

  • The book must be written and marketed as a romance and adhere to basic criteria of the genre.
  • The book should have an ISBN-13.
  • The book she be professionally designed and bound with title and author on the spine and barcode with ISBN on the back.
  • Spiral bound and stapled books are not accepted.
  • The book should be priced comparably to similar titles and formats.
  • The book should not contain the use of Generative AI, wither for promotion of the book or in the content within.

If we choose to consign you book(s), we will send you a consignment agreement to sign and return.  By signing the agreement, you are agreeing to the following:

  • We off standard consignment terms of 60/40, price set by author.  Any title we sell we will pay out 60% of the retail price to you.
  • Consignment lasts for one quarter (renewable) or on a per event basis.  If you are interested in holding an in-store event, please click here.
  • Author will provide five copies at the start of consignment and will be responsible for restock.
  • Consignment payouts will be completed quarterly within the first week of the month following the end of the quarter.  Payouts will be in January, April, July and October and will be done by mailed check.

We review sales performance every quarter.  If we feel sales are too low, the agreement will be terminated, and you will be asked to pick up any remaining books.  Books will be held for one month after termination notification.  If the consignor fails to respond at the end of the month, books become property of Kiss and Tale Romance Bookshop and will be donated.  For nonlocal authors, you can also elect to send us a shipping label.

Priority will be given to local authors, sub-genres that sell well in our store, and titles that fill gaps in our inventory.  We will also pass on any titles that promote or romanticize content that is contrary to Kiss and Tale Romance Bookshop's core values.

It is the author's responsibility to notify us of any changes in contact information.  It is also the author's responsibility to check with us about inventory status and to deliver new inventory as needed.

Marketing is the responsibility of the consignor.  We ask that authors promote the availability of their book(s) at Kiss and Tale Romance Bookshop on their websites, social media platforms and events.  This benefits both the author and our bookstore!  Letting friends and family know that they can purchase your book at Kiss and Tale Romance Bookshop is a big part of creating a successful consignment.

If your book is otherwise distributed by Ingram (regular discount and returnable) or the publisher with standard bookstore terms please let us know.
